英語で音楽をまなぶ

現代では外国語、特に英語の習得がますます必要とされているのは間違いないようです。しかし、日本で生活していると、せっかく学んだ言語も使う機会があまりなく、学習者が、学ぶだけでなく実践できる環境作りがより重要であると感じています。私たち音の木音楽教室では、長期間にわたりイギリスでの生活経験を通じて培った語学力を生かし、学習者が自然な英語に触れ、音楽や文化に深く浸ることができる環境を提供したいと考えています。

音の木音楽教室では、日本語と英語の両言語でレッスン（ピアノ・ギター・ウクレレ・音楽理論・ソルフェージュなどすべて）を行っており、生徒たちはマルチリンガルな環境で音楽の学びを進めることができます。私たちは、英語を単なる教科としてではなく、音楽探求の手段として捉えています。

私たち自身も音楽を学び始めた際、最初は日本語を通じて学び、その後英語で学習することになりました。そうすることによって、音楽の知識を増やし、理解を豊かにし、様々な人と対話し、「結果的に」英語力も深めることができました。通常、言語習得と音楽探求（ほかの教科でも）は、それぞれ別個のものと考えられているし、学校などでもそのように行われていますが、実際には結びつけて学習することが可能な上、そのほうがむしろ効率がよいと考えます。

音楽と英語が融合したバイリンガルな環境に生徒を置くことで、言語能力だけでなく、音楽に内在する文化的なニュアンスに対する深い理解も促進します。とくにテクスト部分、タイトル、歌の歌詞や音楽用語を学び、解釈したりすることで、生徒たちは言語と音楽の流暢さを同時に身につけることができます。このような方法論により、言語習得は音楽活動の自然な副産物となり、より統合的で、「使える英語」、「生きている英語」をみにつけることが可能だと考えます。
